1/72 Lockheed P-38D Lightning Fighter
1/72 Lockheed P-38D Lightning Fighter
3 decal variants:
1. P-38D, 1st. PG, California Manoeuvres, October 1941
2. P-38D, 1st. PG, California Manoeuvres, October 1941
3. P-38D, USAF, 1942
The twin tailplane was fast, heavily armed and very versatile. It was no match for the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Focke-Wulf Fw 190 single-engine fighters, but for its size it was very easy to control and effective - at least with capable pilots. This was especially true in the Southwest Pacific, where the most successful American pilots, Major Richard I. Bong and Major Thomas B. McGuire, flew these machines.
