The Junker Ju87 'Stuka' became one of the most infamous aircrafts of World War II. It gained its' fame during the opening actions of the Second World War, as well as in the Spanish Civil War.
During the opening phases of World War II, the 'Stuka' achieved noteriety through its great accuracy, as well as the psychological effect of the 'trumpet' device on the undercarriage legs, this device made a wailing noise as the aircraft dived.
However, by the time of the Battle of Britain, the 'Stuka' was hopelessly outclassed when faced with effective fighter opposition. The Hurricanes and Spitfires of the RAF were able to decimate the hapless and vunerable 'Stukas' to such an extent, they were withdrawn from the Battle.
In the opening movements of the campaign on the Eastern Front and again in the Western Desert, the 'Stuka' proved that in a clear sky it was a devastatingly effective weapon, but when faced with fighter opposition it was a death trap for the crews.
