Future Release
The F-15J Eagle is the main interceptor fighter of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). The JASDF is the third country in the world, after the US Air Force and Israel, to operate the Eagle.
The JASDF, which had previously used the F-104J as its interceptor fighter, investigated the FX as a successor to the F-104J.
From among many candidate aircraft, the F-15 was selected on December 9, 1976, and the first aircraft arrived at Gifu Air Base on March 27, 1981.
The F-15J aircraft initially introduced by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) were basically equivalent to the U.S. Air Force's F-15C Block 26, with some modifications unique to the JASDF.
These modifications mainly included the addition of the JASDF's own automated warning and control system (BADGE system) and a high-speed data device (J/ASW-10 data link system) that receives interception control from E-2C early warning aircraft , as well as changing the antenna at the tip of the vertical stabilizer to a mass balance.
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force initially deployed the F-15J to Nyutabaru Air Base for pilot training before beginning full-scale deployment to fighter wings.
Currently, the F-15J is deployed to seven squadrons: 201st Squadron (Chitose Air Base), 202nd Squadron (Nyutabaru Air Base), 203rd Squadron (Chitose Air Base), 204th Squadron (Hyakuri Air Base), 303rd Squadron (Komatsu Air Base), 304th Squadron (Tsuiki Air Base), and 305th Squadron (Hyakuri Air Base).
Like the U.S. Air Force, the F-15J is undergoing a Multi-Stage Improvement Program (MSIP), with its equipment being improved and added year after year.
As a result, its appearance changes, such as the addition of new antennas, are also occurring.
In addition, aircraft capable of carrying the domestically produced AAM-3 air-to-air missile are currently being modified.
The F-15J will play an active role in the defense of Japan's airspace as the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's main fighter jet, along with the FS-X which will be developed in the future.
