1/32 de Havilland DH.103 Hornet F Mk.1 / PR Mk.2
The de Havilland DH.103 Hornet was one of the fastest piston-engined fighters ever built, developed from the Mosquito as a long-range, high-performance fighter during the final years of the Second World War. Its streamlined wooden airframe and twin Rolls-Royce Merlin 130/131 engines with opposite-hand propellers gave it outstanding speed, agility, and range. Entering RAF service shortly after the war, it proved particularly valuable in the Far East.
The Hornet F.1 was the initial fighter version, armed with four 20 mm Hispano cannon and capable of speeds over 470 mph. The PR.2 photo-reconnaissance variant replaced its guns with cameras and extra fuel, offering exceptional range and speed for strategic reconnaissance. Although only a prototype was completed, it was evaluated by the Photo Reconnaissance Development Unit. Built in limited numbers, the Hornet is widely regarded as the pinnacle of British piston-engined fighter design, admired for its performance, elegance, and advanced engineering.
