The Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger I is certainly one of the most famous tanks of the Second World War. It was developed to provide the Wehrmacht's armored divisions with a heavily armored and heavily armed tank to complement the more widespread Panzer III and Panzer IV medium tanks, which were no longer capable of effectively countering enemy tanks. Its main armament consisted of the famous and lethal 88 mm KwK 36 L/56 long-barreled anti-tank gun. Mounted in the turret and protected by a heavy 120 mm shield, it was capable of penetrating the armor of any enemy vehicle of the time, even at long range. It was used in all major theaters of operation and actively participated in the German military operations in Normandy and on the Western Front. Although plagued by reliability and operational issues, the heavy tank, in the hands of experienced crews, was always extremely feared by the Allied forces.
