This book serves as both a comprehensive reference for techniques and a creative guide, blending Michael Rinaldi's detailed methodology with accessible teaching tools that make the art of reductive chipping understandable and inspiring for modelers of all levels.
TG/01 CHIPPING launches the TG Series (Technique Guide) under the new RSPRO line, produced in partnership with AMMO of Mig.
This first volume is dedicated to teaching modern reductive chipping techniques for all types of scale model subjects, presented through step-by-step detailed photographs, RSP's dual-text "How/Why" format, and all-new video tutorials accessible via QR code.

About the Technique
Refined by Michael Rinaldi, the reductive chipping technique is an artistic and realistic method for simulating paint wear and surface damage on scale models, especially armored vehicles, aircraft, and other weathered subjects.
Unlike additive methods, where chips are painted on the base colours, reductive chipping involves removing portions of the top paint layer to reveal the base coat beneath, effectively recreating the natural wear seen on real vehicles.
The process typically uses:
Chipping medium or hairspray between the base coat and the top coat.
Water activation to soften the upper layer of colour.
Brushes, toothpicks, sponges and other tools to gently remove paint and create controlled, realistic chipping effects.
Michael Rinaldi's Artistic Philosophy

Michael Rinaldi's approach focuses not only on how to create chipping but why it should appear in certain areas. Each step encourages modelers to think critically about::

Wear patterns based on the vehicle's operational history and environment..
Controlled randomness to avoid unnatural or repetitive results.
Layering and tonal variation to achieve depth and realism.
This "How and Why" dual-text layout, a hallmark of Rinaldi's TANKART and TG books, allows readers to follow both the technical execution and the creative reasoning behind every finish.

Content Overview
The goal of TG/01 CHIPPING is to demonstrate the full range of chipping possibilities across a wide variety of subjects:
Armor: 5 models + test models
Aircraft: 4 models + test model
Civilian: 3 trucks + test model + 2 RR rolling stock subjects
Science Fiction / Mecha: 6 models (including Gunpla and Ma.K).
Updated to include new hand-painting styles.
