Updated boxing of the classic Eduard Fw 190D-9; new markings, same issues, but still the best Dora in the scale. Includes masks, colour PE, really good instructions, lots of optional parts so you can make sure your model Dora matches your reference Dora.
Gotcha's to watch out for:
1. that wing spar, be REALLY careful when you attach that to the lower wing surface; it wants to slide slightly to the left or right, which will go unnoticed until you try and attach the main gear legs (ask me how I know).
2. the firewall arrangement fwd of the cockpit - these require VERY specific angles to fit right, so use a small drop of slower drying glue one ONE fuselage half, and just gently clamp both the fuselage sides together as things dry... You will have time to just nudge those angles and get the correct fit.
3. yeah the engineering in general is pretty tight, so you do need to go slow and just make sure things are correctly aligned before committing to glue.
4. while it is in the D-11/D-13 ProfiPACK (as a small etched part), the D-9 kits STILL miss the small exhaust deflector present under the supercharger inlet on the right-hand side. Its nothing major - just check refs and use some thin plastic card, and you're all set!
The original D-9 boxing (ED8184) featured generally earlier production machines, where this newer boxing seems to cover a broader range of machines - to be 1005 fair, I sort of like the markings from ED8184 a bit more, but that's hardly a major issue. Oh and colour call out seem to be updated with the more recent research on RLM81/82/83.
But as above, best 1/48 D-9 bar none - at the same time, not a kit for the first time builder.
