The Schwerer Zugkraftwagen 18 t or SdKfz 9, also known as FAMO was the heaviest half-track vehicle used by the Wehrmacht. It was originally designed as a heavy artillery tractor, but was put to many other uses during WW2.
Its design was initiated in 1936 by the company Fahrzeug und Motoren-Werke GmbH on the basis of designs from the Department of Military Automobiles (Waffenprufamte 6) of 1933. After several prototypes, the final development went into series production in 1939.
It was powered by a Maybach HL 98 V12 petrol engine delivering 200 hp.
It was used in the Italian campaign, mainly as an anti-tank vehicle.
This kit shows a version that mounts a Flak 88 4 x 20mm Flak 88 anti-aircraft gun on its modified body.
The kit includes an Sd Ah 51 ammunition trailer.
