Designed for long-range strategic recon missions, the SR-71 Blackbird set several notable speed records throughout the 1960s and 1970s. During an April 26, 1971 flight, Majors Dewain Vick and Thomas Estes flew over 15,000 miles (24,000 km) in 10.5 hours. Both pilots earned the 1971 Mackay Trophy and 1972's Harmon Trophy for their efforts. Over five years later, the SR-71 set the absolute speed record of 2,193.2 mph (3,529.6 km/h). Impressive statistics indeed! Kit features decals and assembly instructions.
